Membrane quality control

The global water technology company Aquaporin A/S, purchased Inniti’s solution to automate the quality control station of their Hollow Fiber Forward Osmosis (HFFO) modules.

By installing Inniti’s solution Aquaporin was able to increase their capacity with 300% and lower their labour cost combined with performing the quality control with 70%.

Aquaporin are now able to perform eight quality controls in a row without human input. To start a new quality control, Aquaporin staff simply have to exchange the HFFO modules and press start in the software.

An Inniti solution can in a simple way automate the characterization and evaluation of the performance of your ultrafiltration, microfiltration and forward osmosis membranes.

Time consuming QC

The global water technology company Aquaporin A/S, purchased Inniti’s solution to automate the quality control station of their Hollow Fiber Forward Osmosis (HFFO) modules.

Prior to installing Inniti’s solution, Aquaporin experienced quality control as a bottleneck in their pilot production of HFFO modules. The quality control process was a time consuming task and took scientist time from performing R&D. Each quality control procedure was performed manually and took one hour, during which a scientist had to attend to the experiment at five different occasions.

Approach

Automating manual process

Aquaporin wanted to use Inniti’s solution to replicate their manual process, to compare the data from their new quality control with historical data.

The objective was to free up the laboratory professionals time by running eight quality controls in a row. Inniti installed a setup at Aquaporin’s facility consisting of pumps, valves, flow, temperature, conductivity and pressure sensors.

Several laboratory professionals from Aquaporin got access to Inniti’s software platform and within 30 minutes, they were able to operate the software independently.

I am keen to get started using Inniti’s solution? How do I get started?

That is easy. Contact our sales staff at pz@inniti.dk and we will find a solution that suits your needs.

Next we come to your site, set up the supporting infrastructure and within hours you can connect all your laboratory equipment to the Inniti software platform -automating all work in your laboratory.

Can I interface with all 3rd party laboratory equipment?

We currently interface with a broad range of 3rd party equipment. If you want to know, if we can interface with your equipment, send the manufacturer and model number to info@inniti.dk.

For us to interface with your equipment it is required that the equipment has a port for external communication e.g. RS232, RS485, USB or ethernet.

If your equipment has a port for external communication and we are currently not interfacing with it, we are happy to onboard it, so you can gain the advantage of having your equipment connected to out software platform.

Do I have to install something on my computer to use Inniti’s software platform?

No! You can login to our software platform from any computer, the only thing you need is to open your browser (e.g. Google Chrome) and enter your login credentials.

How do I calibrate my equipment?

In the side menu on the left side of the screen, you will find a “Calibration” button. Click that, select the equipment you want to calibrate and follow the guide on your screen.

I forgot my password, what do I do?

What does the colored light on my equipment indicate?

Blinking green: The equipment is looking for the network, once found it will turn constant green.

Constant green: The equipment is connected and can be found on the software platform.

Blue: The device is active and part of an experiment, that is currently running.

White: The equipment is being calibrating.

Yellow: The equipment cannot connect to the software platform. Try plugging it to and from power. If this does not resolve the issue contact help@inniti.dk or +45 25 75 95 26‬

New board of directors

Inniti has elected a new board of directors to help the continuous growth of Inniti.

Inniti was founded in 2017 by Malthe Muff - CEO, Anders Lund - CTO and Matteo Fumagalli - COO. After the founders realised the lack of modular automation solutions in the laboratories. 

Since Inniti was founded the vision has been clear, we want to revolutionise the way scientists work in the laboratory. By making state of the art technologies available to all lab professionals. Enabling lab professionals to shorten the time to market for new products by automating their work, collaborate and share results with their colleague’s worldwide. 

In June 2019 Inniti raised an investment round with the Danish Growth Found and Swedish Axilium Capital, to accelerate the product development and expand the application area of Inniti’s solution. 

New board of directors members 

In end 2019 Inniti has established a professional board of directors. Else Beth Traunter is elected as new Chairman of the board of directors. She has previously been CEO at Euro Diagnostica and is now Chairman of the board of directors at Viewcare and Centaflow. She has extensive experience with business development and executing strategies for globally born products. 

Claus Helix-Nielsen is elected as a new member of the board of directors, he has entrepreneurial experience from co-founding Golgi and his time as CTO in Aquaporin. He is now head of the Technical University of Denmark - Environmental Department. Claus has great insight into our customer segment and the application of Inniti’s technology and experience in managing a fast-growing organisation. 

In addition to the newly elected members, Inniti’s board of directors consists of Anders Lund (Inniti), Matteo Fumagalli (Inniti) and Karl Xaiver (Axilium Capital).

How membrane pilots should be done

The road to a successful membrane pilot

Convincing customers to implement a new type of membrane in their process is complicated and requires extensive proof of concept at the customer's facility. This post will dig into how state of the art lab-scale pilot solutions can increase the chances for a successful pilot.

The challenges of a successful pilot 

The journey to sales in the membrane industry often contains one or more successful pilots at the customer's facility. 

But setting up pilots can be a time-consuming task both for the membrane manufacturer and the customer. It takes a person to operate the pilot, gather the results and share results with the involved parties. Besides, there needs to be an extensive knowledge transfer from the membrane manufacture to the customer. To ensure the customer is capable of performing the process correctly, so the membrane has the best possible performance. 

It isn't easy to provide technical support on the pilot once it is running at the customer's site as the membrane manufacturer cannot see how the customer is operating the pilot and can only troubleshoot based on the customer's explanation. The lack of insight into how the customer is operating also removes the membrane manufacturers possibility to be proactive in their technical support. These challenges can result in unsuccessful pilots and lost sales only because the customer did not operate the membrane correctly and failed to reach out to the manufacturer for technical support. 

Reinventing pilots 

The world is connected, so why are membrane manufactures not able to monitor and control their membrane pilot after the implementation at the customer's facility?

With Inniti's solution, both the membrane manufacturer and the customer can monitor and control the pilot from anywhere. Giving the membrane manufactures a possibility to continuously monitor the pilot and take action if the pilot is not operated correctly. The customer and membrane manufacturer can now collaborate in getting the best possible outcome in the pilot and technical support is made easy as both parties have access to the same live data. It is also a unique opportunity for membrane manufacture to gather data about their membranes performance at the customer site, data that is highly valuable in sales and R&D context. 

Automation with ease

Today there is a trade-off between the duration of a pilot and the resources allocated to operate the pilot. 

At Inniti we have removed this barrier, we provide membrane manufactures with the possibility to deliver a fully automated system together with the membrane so that the pilot can run for months without any additional effort. 

Due to the modular nature of Inniti's solution, the membrane pilot can be built to suit the customer's exact need and measure all desired parameters. The automation solution can be packed into a suitcase and brought on a plane and installation at the customer site takes less than an hour.
